Frenectomy (Gum Treatment): Case 3: Simple enough for a 10 year old!
Our patient came in with her mom (clearly!) and needed to have some work done before her braces went on! In this situation, she needed to prevent a problem from starting. When there is a frenum pulling on the gums, there is a large risk for bone and tissue loss around the teeth. The risk is even greater if the patient is going through orthodontic tooth movement (braces / invisalign). This can be tragic for little kids, even adults. This procedure took less than 5 minutes to do, and the patient was gobbling down ice cream all night :). Interestingly, this procedure is very straightforward and involves little-to-no discomfort afterwards. Usually 1 or 2 advil and tylenol is enough!
“Dr. Patil and his staff could not be more professional. They take the time to talk to you and explain what will be done. I am constantly surprised at how little pain is associated with the procedures they perform.” Jack T.
